Chester Gould TV Appearances

Although Dick Tracy certainly doesn't have the level of fame he did once upon a time, I suspect most people don't realize just how popular the strip and its creator really were. I've pulled together a few of Chester Gould's television appearances from over the years.

In 1949, Gould was presented with a special citation from the Police Athletic League on The Fred Waring Show...

A few years later, in 1965, Gould was featured on To Tell the Truth (hosted by former Superman voice actor Bud Collyer)...

Finally, a 1982 audio interview with Gould on the subject of gun control...

Growing up in the 1960's and '70's, I read Dick Tracy each week in the Sunday comic strip section.

We didn't get Dick Tracy in our local paper when I was growing up. I expect I first encountered him via his cartoon segments on that 1970s Archie show. I know I was nominally familiar with the character by the time that Warren Beatty movie came out, but I still had never read the actual strip at that point, at least no more than a handful of isolated strips.
