- Neil Cohn and Sean Ehly have a new paper out examining the "visual morphology in dialects of Japanese Visual Language." Basically, what are the icons and symbols used in manga to convey non-visual things -- like bloody noses to represent lust.
- A preview of the latest issue of Digital Humanities Quarterly is available and is comics themed. This "Comics as Scholarship!" issue features the work of Aaron Kashtan, Nick Sousanis, Aaron Humphrey, Jason Helms, B.J. Parker, and Robert Watkins and Tom Lindsley -- "along with an article-length introduction by Anastasia [Salter] and [Roger Whitson] exploring comics scholarship in the context of digital comics, DH, and scholarly multimedia."
- Although it's not directly comic-related, Vivian Giang provides some useful advice for freelancers with regards to the isolation of spending all your time in your studio.
- There's just over a week left in Kel McDonald's Cautionary Fables and Fairy Tales: Asia Edition Kickstarter. It's already passed its funding goal, but the previous Europe and Africa editions were excellent, and I wanted to make sure this one gets highlighted as well.
