Understanding Zippy

Bill Griffith's Zippy the Pinhead doesn't get much love, I think in part, because it's so esoteric that no one understands it. (Which begs the question: why is it a nationally syndicated strip in mainstream media?) Fortunately, Griffith himself is aware of the narrative barriers he has to overcome and wrote a sequence explaining the basic concept and structure of the strip. I believe this is from over a decade ago, so I thought I'd take the opportunity to represent it for you here today.
