- Today, on Jack's 90th birthday, there is a full moon. I was going to try to be clever in a subtle way by peppering my posts with some of Jack's drawings of werewolves. Strangely, though, I can't find any. And as I sit and reflect on it, I don't think I've ever seen a Kirby-drawn werewolf!
Point, the second is that the release of Jack Kirby Collector #49 seems to have been pushed back a month. I believe it was originally scheduled for last week, but TwoMorrows' site now lists a September 26 date. I know John, the publisher, was absolutely swamped during CCI, which was about when that issue was supposed to go to press so it's no great surprise (to me, at least) that this has gotten pushed back a bit.
But, let me tell you, it will have one seriously cool "Incidental Iconography" column! Well worth waiting for!

I had a couple more Kirby thoughts, but they didn't really fit into the narrative of my previous post, so I'm pulling them out separately.

There's a sort of were-creature in The Demon #6 and a slightly more old-school one in Jimmy Olsen #142 and #143. Stretching the definition even further, there's also the wolfish Man-Beast from Thor...
Stretching it even a bit further, Etrigan himself is kind of a were-demon, with the visuals of his transformations often seeming to owe something to werewolf imagery.
And the Hulk briefly had the "tranforming at sunset, human at sunrise" gimmick.
